Generations Growing in Faith

Then you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and have your rise from them, O my people!

- Ezekiel 37:13

This week we pause as a nation to give thanks.  I believe that true thanksgiving is always expressed in ways that can be seen, or heard, or touched.  In other words, true thanksgiving is always embodied, or “incarnated,” to use a fancy theological word. The proper way to give thanks for loving parents is to say “thank you” to them and to spend quality time with them.  The genuine way to give thanks for being able to think and learn is to study and read and learn.  The best way to give thanks for our freedom is to make good choices.  The proper way to give thanks for any athletic ability is to practice well, to develop those skills, and to win and lose with class.  The proper way to give thanks for having plenty of the world’s resources is to share them with those who do not have enough.  The best way to give thanks for having received good example from parents and coaches and mentors is to give good example ourselves.  The true way to give thanks to God for loving and blessing us is to love God back and to love one another.  .  The best way to express our gratitude to God and to love God back is to gather every weekend with fellow parishioners to give thanks through Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.

So to practice what I preach let me say: God has blessed me here at St. Dominic with faithful and generous people to share this journey of faith.  You have been loving and inspirational companions!  Thank You!
