Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself.

- Philippians 2:5-7

Blog Post Week 3
September 25, 2016

This past Sunday your children praised the Lord by praying some Psalms and beginning to get an idea of what they are.  There are 150 psalms in the Book of Psalms, in the Old Testament.  (Ask your son or daughter if they remember how to locate the psalms in the bible) Hint, they are exactly in the center of the bible.  Some give adoration, some express thanks, others are prayers asking God for His help and forgiveness.

Fr. Jim asked me if I might include a reminder of his homily in this blog.  For this past Sunday, I am including a brief version:  This parable of the rich man and Lazarus appears only in Luke, which makes sense since his community was upper middle class.  The rich man was in the place of torment not because he did evil things, he simply ignored Lazarus.  Maybe the rich man saw a stereotype--a lazy bum, a drunk, etc. when he saw Lazarus?

Our worst offenses could be our sins of omission.  Whether we notice poverty or not matters to God.  Noticing the poor and doing something about helping is crucial, like donating to St. Vincent de Paul for example.

We still have a chance in our lives to do this; we are the five brothers the man wants to warn what's waiting for them.  Lazarus is waiting for us at the gate, so is Jesus!
As time permits, if you would, look over the “With My Family” page that came home with your child.  They may really enjoy the third suggestion under “Making a Difference” which suggests finding contemporary Christian music that you and your child could listen to together.  For you parents’ benefit, take a look at presentationministries.com for an abundance of great information.  God bless!

Blog Post Week 2

We focused on God the Father and prayed the Our Father, the Lord's Prayer, which the church prays every day. Each time we gather and celebrate Mass, we pray the Our Father as we prepare to share in Holy Communion. Pray the Our Father often this week. When you take part in Mass, join in praying aloud or singing the Our Father.

Blog Post Week 1

We learned about the Holy Trinity beginning with the Scripture verse based on Luke 11:13: Jesus prayed, "Father give them the Holy Spirit." The belief in the mystery of the Trinity is at the heart of the Church's living faith. To reinforce this, choose one way your family can reflect the love  of the Holy Trinity to your neighbors or relatives. God bless us all!
