Then you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and have your rise from them, O my people!

This past Sunday many were absent, which is very unfortunate.  I hope everyone is better if they were out due to illness.  We learned the Legend of the Christmas Donkey in which the children now know why some donkeys bear the trace of a cross on their back.  People say this is a sign that God rewards the smallest acts of kindness.  We talked about doing acts of kindness for one another and hopefully you are seeing the fruits of that discussion!

We also learned about the Magi and how baby Jesus came to be born in Bethlehem.  Enjoy the blessed season of Christmas with your families and we will see you on January 8, the Feast of the Epiphany.  May God bless you all at Christmastime and always!

This week your child learned about the first three weeks of Advent and about John the Baptist. John the Baptist was the last of the prophets who prepared the way for the Lord Jesus. John prepared the way of the Lord by his preaching and his baptizing. He pointed to Jesus as the Savior of the world. As John the Baptist did, we are all called to make Jesus known to others and invite them to become followers of Jesus.

As a family, talk about what John the Baptist told people about Jesus. Invite each family member to share what they would tell others about Jesus. Or read the story about John the Baptist as a family and have your child draw a picture of what he or she heard.

Happy Advent and see you Sunday!

This week your child learned about the Covenant that God entered into with his people.  The Covenant is a sign of God’s love and mercy.  The Covenant was first made with people at creation.  When Adam and Eve sinned and broke the Covenant, God promised to send someone to renew the Covenant.  God filled his promise by sending the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who became man and lived among us.  Jesus is true God and true man.  He is the new and everlasting Covenant.  And, of course, He is what we celebrate in 18 days on Christmas Day!

Everything Jesus did was a sign of God’s love.  Choose to do one thing together this week to live as signs of God’s love.  Have a great 2nd week of Advent!
